Polyester – this was originally a sports material and still has those qualities. It wicks moisture off the skin into the material where it evaporates and this can cause odour problems for heavy sweaters but then again, it can be washed at a high temperature and frequently for no loss of shape or colour. It dries quickly and doesn’t need ironing. Polyester comes in different finishes and open weave shirts are to be avoided if abrasion is an issue. We generally don’t recommend polyester for trades for that reason – that said, hi vis polos are almost always made of polyester.
